The Hello Initiative
Saying “Hello” is one of the simplest forms of communication between people. We say “hello” by smiling, waving, speaking, hugging, and even nodding.
English Lessons in Bali
Here at Little Mountain we heard about regenerative farming in Bali through Tim Fijal, a former colleague who runs Astungkara Way in Bali, and thought, “Hello, what a great idea and how can we get involved?”
We didn’t know anything about regenerative farming but we did know a lot about education and teaching English. We thought about it and came up with the idea of providing free English lessons to the children in the Subak Uma Lambing farming community as a way to get youth involved in regenerative agriculture by getting them to the farm.
The Hello Initiative was born in April 2022 with just two classes a week to one group of students. The response from the community was wonderful and encouraging. So many kids showed up that we had to split them into two groups and teach two groups twice a week. We worked hard to provide lessons that were relevant to the community but also a fit for the ages we were teaching.
